Actress Kerry Washington (who most recently starred in The Last King Of Scotland) recently revealed to People magazine that she'd prefer to live life to the fullest rather than restrict herself on a diet.

"In general in life I try to live it, not diet," the actress told People. "I think that's hard when you're restricting a lot. So I try to take it easy on a daily basis and do what's going to make me feel good.
"I love to exercise. I generally exercise every day. I watch what I eat, I do. My body is really sensitive, so I'm very conscious of what I put in my mouth. I try for the most part to eat things that are going to make me feel better, not worse."

Cameron Diaz has recently claimed that she would never have plastic surgery because it is "sick".

Diaz is quoted by Britain's Daily Express newspaper as saying: "Have you seen those shows where ordinary people want to look like Britney Spears or Brad Pitt? What on earth possesses them to want to destroy their own character? To go under the knife to do that, well, it's sick."

The actress had an operation on her nose last year to correct a deviated septum, but claims she would never have surgery for purely cosmetic reasons.

"I would never have anything done. I think beauty comes from the inside. When I see women who have had plastic surgery I find it unnerving. All I can see is the surgery. The person who has had it has vanished. I don't want to look like that."

Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs defended Lily Allen on May 20th and called the Girls Aloud singer a "knobhead" due to her labelling Lily Allen a "chick with a dick."

Beth Ditto has chimed in, telling Radio One "Fuck Girls Aloud. I'd rather be a fat chick with a dick than an asshole."

Keira Wins Libel Claim Over Daily Mail's Anorexia Claims

Keira Knightley has accepted a $6,000 settlement of her libel claim against the Daily Mail over an article that suggested she was to blame for the death of an anorexic teenager.

Knightley also said the story falsely suggested that she had an eating disorder.

Kate Wilson, representing the publisher of the Daily Mail, Associated Newspapers, told a court Thursday the newspaper accepted that Knightley was not responsible for a death, and that Knightley "does not have an eating disorder, and has not misled the public."

In January, the Daily Mail published a photo of Knightley in a bikini with the headline: "If pictures like this one of Keira carried a health warning, my darling daughter might have lived."
Knightley's lawyer, Simon Smith, said the article could be interpreted to say that she was personally responsible for the death of Sophie Mazurek, 19, who had suffered from anorexia.
Knightley, who was not in court, intends to donate the settlement to Beat, an eating disorder and mental illness charity.

The June 4th issue of Star magazine reveals the "36 Best and Worst Beach Bodies" and Kate Hudson is labelled "Worst" on the cover. Last week, candid photos of Kate's AMAZING abs surfaced on the internet, so my guess is that Star magazine's pictures have been photoshopped to make it appear like her stomach is melting.

I wonder if Kate heard about this photo being in the magazine and decided to preemptively strike by walking around with a midriff bearing sports bra?

Dita is reportedly using sun-blocking curtains to protect her porcelain skin from tanning at Cannes Film Festival in South of France.

"I have brought my own curtains to the hotel to stop the sungetting in, and I have only used the hotel pool at night. I have also packed vitamins to stop the sun doing anything to me. Some foods accelerate tanning, so I'm very careful about what I eat here."

It is refreshing to see someone who wants to protect their skin, and does not value, appreciate or cave in to the Hollywood beauty standard of fake, leathery tanned skin. Bravo Dita!

Scarlett Johansson is the face of Louis Vuitton's Fall-Winter 2007 /2008 campaign.

"In this one, she's much more recognizable," said Antoine Arnault, Vuitton's communications director says.

Marc Jacobs (Vuitton's creative director) "adores" ScarJo and used her character from the 2003 movie "Girl With a Pearl Earring" as his inspiration for the collection.

The fall campaign, lensed by Vuitton regulars Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, plays up the painterly colors of the ready-to-wear. "It's probably one of the most beautiful campaigns Mert and Marcus have ever shot," Arnault said. "It's a very iconic campaign."

Arnault, son of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton chairman Bernard Arnault and a member of LVMH's board, said Johansson was at ease during the shoot, held in a studio in her hometown of Los Angeles in late March. In fact, during a lunch break, the photographers were so struck by the combination of light and Johansson that they snapped some impromptu black-and-white portraits that will be featured in a future issue of Pop magazine.

Lindsay Lohan was reportedly rejected as the face of this campaign back in October because she was "too American" for the label, so Lindsay settled for deals with lower profile labels Miu Miu and Jill Stuart. Interestingly, the site Gawker reported that Lohan scrawled “Scarlett is a bloody c-nt / L / Peace and love / [illegible] / f—ker” on the bathroom wall at the NYC bar Dark Room last year.

Jordin Sparks has been called a "vision of unhealth" by Meme Roth, a woman representing the National Action Against Obesity on Fox News.

Roth said that Jordin "clearly has extra weight on her" and is "statistically normal" in regards to the obesity trend in America.

"The second Jordin wins she's gonna drop 40 lbs, her handlers will make sure of it, look at the past winners. And if she wants to have a long career in Hollywood, I'm not saying it's fair, I'm not saying it's right, but I am saying that she's gonna have to drop that weight" Roth said.

Victoria Beckham seems to be having a hard time adjusting to life in Los Angeles.

Back in Britain, Victoria is one of the most watched celebrities, but L.A. does not seem to take as much interest in her as her homeland does.

On Monday she staged a publicity visit to the Pleasure Chest sex shop in West Hollywood, with a blowup doll dressed like her as a "decoy." The paparazzi were tipped off and waiting for the stunt.
Her husband, David Beckham 's, $250M contact with the Galaxy soccer team kicks off in July. No doubt his arrival will get her some much-needed attention.

Then on Tuesday, Victoria was pulled over by a cop and ticketed... making many believe this was another publicity stunt for her upcoming reality TV show.

According to The Daily Mail, “The star has had a run in with the law on the streets of Los Angeles, where she was pulled over outside a Hollywood shopping complex by a Beverly Hills officer, who ran checks on her British driver’s license.”

Mary-Kate Returns To Television

Mary-Kate Olsen is ready to return to television - without her twin sister Ashley by her side. Mary-Kate has landed a role on the television show "Weeds".

MK will play "Tara"- a God fearing girl living in the Christian megachurch community of Majestic - and will become a love interest for Silas, played by Hunter Parrish. It is reported that she will appear in 10 of the 15 episodes that comprise the show's 3rd season, which premieres in August.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the show," MK said. "It's really an honor to be a part of such a talented group of actors and writers."

A series producer said: "'Weeds' isn't your eight o'clock family fare. It's an adult show and adult subject matter, and we're confident Mary-Kate is right for the role. She came in and read with Hunter and was absolutely charming and real and seemed like a great fit.

"Audiences have seen only one side of Mary-Kate, but here we'll see her in a whole new light."

This is the second time Mary-Kate has appeared on screen without her twin. She made a fleeting non-speaking appearance in "Factory Girl."

Olsen's role on the edgy Showtime series about a pot-dealing mom (Parker) also is a departure from the wholesome, PG characters she and her sister have played and opens a new chapter in her acting career.

Nicole Richie, The Latest Rehab Celeb?

Rumours are swirling that Nicole Richie has checked into a rehab center this week.

Of course they are originating from unreliable sources - the National Enquirer and Star magazine - both report that Nicole is being treated for anorexia and a nasty addiction to pills.

The mags claim that the an 83 pound Nicole checked into the Beau Monde Treatment Center in Corona Del Mar, California on May 11. Enquirer and Star say that after several days of detox, Richie started out-patient treatment. She was reportedly seen arriving at the clinic on the morning of May 19. Nicole's rep denies everything.

Last year in an interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole talked about her weight issues, stating that she was consulting a nutritionist and physician. "I was scared that it could be something more serious," she told the magazine.

In October 2006, Nicole underwent diagnostic treatment to, according to her representative, "determine why she's not putting on any weight."
Her rep added, "It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."

In March, Nicole was hospitalized for dehydration and hypoglycemia. Later that month she told OK! magazine that she resents allegations that she has an eating disorder.

"That really bothers me because there are people who truly have eating disorders and it is a serious disease," she said. "To put that title on someone when it is not true is disrespectful. I've repeatedly said, 'No, I don't have an eating disorder,' and it has fallen on deaf ears."

On keeping the weight off:“I have a great support system to keep me on track… But I still don’t like working out. It’s hard for me. I have to push myself to want to do it.”

On the fear of packing on the pounds again:“I have moments—I crave chocolate, or just want to eat. One thing that helps is getting my clothes altered to fit so I can tell when I gain or lose. I used to wear overalls all the time, and my mom said, ‘Baby, don’t do that or you won’t know how much you lose.’”

On how you can look like her:“If I can do it, anybody can do it. Eating light and clean helps, but you really shouldn’t think of it as a diet, otherwise you feel like you’re depriving yourself. On eating right:“It’s about control and it’s a balanced diet. Of course I have cheat days! Especially with my dancers, who love to eat. I try to have a glass of wine, but then somebody comes with a lemon drop and it’s so good. You feel like you’re drinking cough syrup or candy, and before you know it, the next day comes and you feel it. I make up for it with a few more reps when I lift weights.”

Keira Knightley, still fighting rumours of an eating disorder, claims (yet again) that she wishes she had more curves. In a recent interview with Britain's morning show GMTV (to be aired Monday) Knightley exclaimed, "I would love to have tits!"

"I would love to have Monica Bellucci's figure," Knightley says of the Italian model and Matrix movies actress. "I'm never going to get it. I'm naturally who I am."

Knightley also reveals that she rejects the idea of getting cosmetic surgery to enhance her figure. "'It's far too frightening. I couldn't."

Keira doesn't plan on altering her healthy diet and exercise regime in the hopes of packing on the pounds. "Yes, I'd say that I do like to keep fit, only because I like to be able to run around and do things," she says. "I think that it would be great in the media if we saw a wider range of women of all ages, of all shapes and sizes."

Knightley's petite frame is often a topic that comes up in her interviews. When the movie King Arthur was released, she voiced her criticism over having her bosom digitally enhanced for the look of the movie poster. "Those things certainly weren't mine," FOX news quoted her as saying. "[The studio marketing people] said, 'We want to make them slightly larger, and you'll get approval [of the photos].' Sylvester Stallone was fined $2,500 by an Australian court on Monday for illegally bringing 48 vials of human growth hormone into Australia during a promotional trip in February.

The court heard that Stallone, 60, told customs he was prescribed the prohibited hormone to give his aging body a boost and to look good while filming his latest "Rambo" movie in Asia.

"This stuff gives your body a boost and you feel and look good," Stallone said in a customs interview. "Doing Rambo is hard work, and I am going to be in Burma for a while.

Olsen Twins To Be Bond Girls?

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen want to be the first twin Bond babes for the next 007 movie.

The Olsens are reportedly in talks with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli to land a part opposite current 007 Daniel Craig. According to the Sun, the Olsens according would have a clause in their contract that states that they won’t have to shed their clothes or indulge in any sex scenes for the movie.

If they do accept the offer, it is said they will probably play good characters who help Craig in his mission.

The Olsen twins will have to face stiff competition for the part, for other actress who are rumored to be interested in starring opposite Craig include Dutch actress Carice Van Houten and Abbie Cornish.

While Dame Judi Dench and Giancarlo Giannini will reprise their roles as M and Rene Mathis, the new movie will see a new villain reportedly to be played by ER actor Goran Visnjic.
The movie has tentatively been named Bond 22, and filming is due to start next year.

Kate Donates Libel Win To Eating Disorder Charity

An eating disorder charity today spoke of its delight after receiving a cash donation from actress Kate Winslet.
The Hollywood star has given about £3,000 of her libel damages to Norfolk-based Beat.
Winslet had taken High Court action against Grazia magazine over claims she had visited a diet doctor. She was awarded an undisclosed sum in damages in March.

Mary George, of Beat, said: "Kate said at the time that she would donate her winnings to an eating disorder charity and that is what she has done.
"I think she was inundated by charities asking for help.
"We were informed last week the money would be split between three eating disorder charities and we were thrilled to be one of them."
Winslet is very outspoken against the pressures on young women to diet.
Ms George said: "She is a very good role model and this is a very thoughtful way of highlighting the issue."
Beat, formerly known as the Eating Disorders Association, offers support to people with dieting problems.

Tyra Banks has reportedly joined a boxing gym to keep in shape.

Martin Snow, the owner of Trinity Boxing Club is Tyra's trainer. Snow says he and Tyra don't follow routine and use high-tech equipment.

"No, I really stay away from doing anything you would find in a health club routine. We're very low frills. If you can plug it in, we probably don't use it. And if it was invented after 1950, we don't use it. It's very effective. You don't need expensive equipment or high tech stuff. Just hard work," he told US Weekly.

"She comes in around three times a week now. And each time it's different. We will take these old tractor tires and she will swing sledgehammers. We do bags filled with sand. And of course the boxing," he said."I have a boxing gym so I basically do the moves with her that a fighter would do. She tends to get bored just doing conventional stuff. She has an athletic body, so I just try to bring it out. She responds very well to exercise. I do old-man Charles Atlas workouts. Stuff that old-time fighters used to do to get in shape," he added.

Snow says he has Banks do drills in the park as Banks doesn't hesitate about getting her image spoiled in public and he is really happy with the efforts the model takes."Around and hour to an hour and half. She is not afraid to get dirty. She is not afraid to go to the park and have people look at her like she's crazy. She is not worried about image," he said."She is fantastic. Hospitals paying for obesity surgery

Calgary hospitals are now picking up the tab for an obesity surgery that helps the severely overweight shed pounds by limiting how much food their stomach can hold.

Beginning this week, Calgary Health Region and Alberta Health will pay for 100 patients to undergo the procedure, known as lap-band surgery, over the next year.

The $9,000 operation works by placing a permanent band around the top of a patient's stomach, creating a small pouch that restricts the flow of food and helps people feel full.

"This recognizes that obesity is a medical condition that deserves to have treatment," said Dr. Jean-Gaston DesCoteaux, one of four general surgeons in Calgary who perform the procedure.
"The demand (for the surgery) is huge. I anticipate our biggest challenge will be selecting patients."

Indeed, experts and patients applauded the decision to fund 100 surgeries annually, but called on government to pay for even more surgeries.

"One hundred isn't enough," said Bernadette Spence, 47, a Calgary woman who underwent the surgery.
"There's so many people out there who need this."

Health officials agreed to pay for the procedure after Calgary surgeons performed 25 lap-band surgeries as part of a pilot project that ended in early January. On average, the patients in the pilot project lost 55 pounds over an eight-month period and some diabetic patients were able to come off their medication.

Surgeons perform the lap-band procedure by making several small incisions and then wrapping the band around the stomach.

After the patient recovers for several weeks, physicians inflate small balloons on the device that create even more pressure on the stomach.

Once the device is in place, patients can only eat about a quarter cup of food at a single meal and begin losing between one and two pounds a week.

Tammy posted a message for her "faithful friends" on her website Tuesday, thanking them all for sending flowers, cards and gifts during her third time battling cancer (first diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996, announced in 2004 that the disease had spread to her lungs).

"The doctors have stopped trying to treat the cancer and so now it's up to God and my faith. And that's enough!" she wrote.

The 65-year-old said that she is being taken care of by her daughter and friends of her daughter while her husband Rob Messner continues to build churches. Messner has frequently spoken about her medical problems, saying she hoped to be an inspiration to others. Letters, including updates on her health, have been posted via her website.

"I am down weight-wise to 65 pounds, and look like a scarecrow. I need God's miracle to swallow," she said in her latest posting. "I look at young people and wish with all my heart for just one day of 'feeling great.'"

Anglo-Dutch consumer products group Unilever NV/Plc wants to prevent super-slim models and celebrities from appearing in advertisements for their products.

Fashion designers, model agencies and the media have been criticized for promoting the skeletal look which has been said to contribute to eating disorders on a global scale. The issue of size zero or “skinny models” has dogged fashion shows and the beauty industry around the world after two anorexic Latin American models died last year. It came under the international spotlight during the spring fashion season in New York, Milan, Paris and London earlier this year.

“Unilever has adopted a new global guideline that will require that all its future marketing communications should not use models or actors that are either excessively slim or promote ‘unhealthy’ slimness,” Ralph Kugler, president of Unilever’s home and personal care division, said.

Unilever will not impose strict criteria for models and actors, but all brand directors and agencies would be expected to use a Body Mass Index (BMI) of between 18.5 and 25 as a guideline for models and actors. The World Health Organization considers anyone with a BMI below 18.5 underweight. A BMI below 17.5 is one of the criteria for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa and a BMI nearing 15 is usually used as an indicator for starvation.

Among Unilever's prodcuts are Lipton teas and Skippy peanut butter. Probably appropriate, considering most emaciated models would never touch peanut butter.

Keira said she was devastated when 19-year-old Sophie Mazurek died of anorexia and her mother blamed celebrities citing an image of Miss Knightley looking particularly thin after filming Pirates of the Caribbean.

The image was also used by pro-anorexia websites. She said: "I went to the doctor to be checked out and asked him what I could do to put on weight. He told me that for someone of my body type to get to a size 12, I would have to eat a lot of shit food, stop exercising and drink loads.
"Basically, my body type is naturally thin. There is nothing I can do about it."

Since November, she has stopped working. "I had to," she says.

"I'd got to a body breakdown. I felt I had permanent jet lag and couldn't mentally or physically adjust. I had a flat I'd bought but never lived in, friends I loved but never got to see. I just wanted to have a bit of a normal life."

At 22 she's already sick of parties and thinking of quitting acting.

She said: "acting was the only thing I ever wanted to do. But, to be honest, I can see myself in five years or whatever just giving the whole thing up.
I would. I'd just do something else and move on.
"I now actively try to avoid parties. My idea of a good night is just hanging out with my mates.
"I've become completely phobic about the red carpet because you just get so scrutinised and all I think is I'm going to be in the top 10 worst-dressed list tomorrow.
"I wish I was Sienna Miller. When I talk to her I hope a bit of her party personality will rub off on me, but it never does.'"

The star also admitted that, unlike some celebrities who don't like to be seen wearing the same thing twice, she sometimes wears the same clothes for "three or four days straight".

"If I find something I feel comfortable in, I'll just stick with it," she said.

Olivia Newton-John's Daughter Chloe Recovering From Anorexia

Australian singer Olivia Newton-John Saturday her daughter Chloe was "doing well" following her battle with anorexia.

"She's fine, she's doing really well, she's been through it, she's healthy," Newton-John told Hong Kong reporters. "She's just finished her record and it's really fantastic."

Chloe Lattanzi revealed recently she had been suffering from the eating disorder after pictures of her looking gaunt appeared in the media.

She has followed in her mother's footsteps by recently securing a record deal.

Newton-John, who is performing a concert in Hong Kong on Sunday, also told of her faith in the healing power of music, saying it had helped her with her own battle against breast cancer.
She said music's therapeutic qualities had been scientifically proven, and she had hoped her latest album, "Grace and Gratitude," would help others. A portion of the CD's proceeds will go to cancer research.

"It's the relaxing experience of music. It accesses a different part of your brain. I recorded it (the album) as a healing experience for myself, but in doing so hopefully created a healing experience for other people," she said.

Newton-John suffered breast cancer in the 1990s and has campaigned actively on issues surrounding the disease ever since, a campaign she said her fame had helped.

"The two go hand in hand because if I hadn't had the career I had, people wouldn't want to hear me, if I was just Jo Blow down the street. So I think it's given me the opportunity to talk about... so many important things, like the environment," she said.

"And I think the two are related. The rise in cancer is related to the state of the environment."
Newton-John said she had several projects coming up, including a movie, details of which would be announced at the Cannes film festival, a new television show and fundraising for a new cancer wing for an Australian hospital.

But she dismissed rumours of a new movie link-up with the American actor John Travolta, with whom she starred in "Grease."

"We've talked about this for years... I'd love to work with him of course but there are no plans," she said.

Research published in Friday's edition of Science journal asserts that people who carry two copies of the variation of the FTO gene weigh 7 pounds more than people who do not. Still, this seems to be little more than a correlation, because scientists don't know what FTO is supposed to do.

Researchers from the University of Oxford and the Peninsula Medical Center in Exeter used blood samples from over 38 000 participants: mostly white Europeans, about one in six thought to carry two copies of the gene variant. Those who had one copy of the FTO had a 30 per cent increased risk of obesity, while those who had two copies had almost a 70 per cent increased risk.

Approximately one in three American adults is obese with millions more overweight. Primary causes are not enough exercise and bad eating habits. Even so, innate biology plays some roleand researchers are exploring a variety of genes and hormones that seem involved in the balancing act of weight gain and loss.

- The fansite Britney Glamour Photos posted photos that show the pop star leaving a place identified as The Advanced Lipo Dissolve Center in Las Vegas on Monday, April 2.

-Us Weekly said she was rumoured to have gotten liposuction on Easter Monday, April 9, in Las Vegas.

Britney's PR rep denies the story, saying she was lounging poolside on Easter Monday in Vegas, not recovering from lipo as would be expected. She has been out and about quite a lot lately, she was in L.A. on April 4 for her sister Jamie Lynn's 15th birthday, she was spotted on April 6 with her two sons, one-year-old Sean P. and 7-month-old Jay, and on April 8 she went to Staples. Would she be able to be on the go if she DID have lipo?
